Somnath Maity

Somnath Maity is a distinguished contemporary Indian painter known for his evocative representations of urban landscapes. Born in Midnapore, West Bengal, in 1960, Maity studied Fine Arts at the College of Visual Arts in Kolkata under the guidance of the noted artist Shuvaprasanna and later completed a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship.

Maity’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in his fascination with the energy and hidden beauty of cities. Rather than presenting urban environments through conventional realism, he transforms buildings, streets and architectural structures into abstract compositions. His paintings are characterised by strong lines, layered textures and an earthy yet vibrant palette of reds, blues, browns, blacks and olive greens. CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Artworks should be displayed away from direct sunlight and breeze. To clean accumulated dust from a painting, use a soft, dry brush very lightly on the surface.
Make sure there is no moisture on the bristles before touching the artwork. For repairing more severe damage, such as cracks or discolouration, it is best to seek help from a professional. Once a year, remove the artwork from the wall for a couple of days to let the wall breathe and avoid moisture accumulation.
