Prakash Sonawane
Prakash Sonawane is a Mumbai-based Indian artist, painter and art educator known for his figurative and portrait-based works exploring human experience, urban life and contemporary Indian society. Trained at Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, where he also pursued his M.F.A. with distinction, Sonawane has developed a distinctive visual language through soft tonal values, transparent layers, expressive textures and mixed-media techniques. His acclaimed Mumbai Dabbawala series emerged from his extensive observation and interaction with the city’s dabbawalas, exploring their discipline, teamwork, resilience and everyday lives. He has exhibited extensively at prominent venues including Jehangir Art Gallery, The Strand Art Room, Lalit Kala Akademi and AIFACS Art Gallery, and has also contributed to art education through his association with Sir J. J. School of Art.
