Jogen Chowdhury
Jogen Chowdhury (b. 1939) is one of India’s most distinguished contemporary artists, celebrated for his distinctive figurative style, expressive line work, and cross-hatched compositions. Born in Faridpur (now in Bangladesh), he studied at the Government College of Art & Craft and later at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His artworks often explore human emotions, social realities, and the complexities of modern life through distorted yet deeply expressive figures. Widely exhibited in India and internationally, Chowdhury has played a significant role in shaping modern Indian art and continues to be regarded as a leading figure in contemporary Indian painting.
