Sushma Jain is an accomplished Indian artist based in Mumbai whose artistic practice is deeply inspired by nature and wildlife. Born in Bankura, West Bengal, she developed an interest in art from an early age and later pursued formal training alongside her academic education. She graduated from Sophia College, Mumbai, completed a Foundation Course at the Indian Art Institute, and received an Art Teacher’s Diploma from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. She also studied various approaches to art at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London.

Jain’s work is distinguished by her deep connection with the natural world, particularly animals and their environments. Her paintings often depict wildlife with remarkable attention to detail, capturing the character and emotional presence of animals through expressive eyes, textures and carefully observed forms. Her inspiration comes from extensive travels to wildlife reserves and forests in India and Africa, where photography and direct observation have become important parts of her artistic process.
