Suman Gupta is a distinguished contemporary Indian artist known for his highly detailed landscapes and socio-philosophical visual narratives. Born in Jammu in 1964, Gupta is a self-taught artist who holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Law from the University of Jammu. His artistic practice is deeply connected to the Himalayan landscape, its people, cultural traditions and changing social realities.

Gupta’s landscapes extend beyond the depiction of natural beauty. Hills, rivers, forests and rural communities become spaces through which he explores memory, identity, social change and existential questions. Drawing upon his experiences of travelling through the countryside and Himalayan highlands, he combines observation, memory and imagination to create richly detailed scenes that often carry deeper socio-philosophical meanings.
