Satish Wavare
Satish Wavare is a contemporary Indian artist based in Mumbai whose practice explores abstraction through line, movement, nature and material. A graduate in Drawing and Painting from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, Wavare initially trained in portrait painting before gradually moving towards abstraction and developing a distinctive visual language of his own.
Known for his experimental approach to materials, Wavare has created works using wooden combs, paper, ink and mixed media. His unusual use of the wooden comb as a painting surface reflects his interest in allowing form, colour, line and material to become part of a single artistic experience.
Nature is a central source of inspiration in his work. His abstract compositions often emerge from observations of natural processes, growth, movement and weathered surfaces. In his celebrated Echoes in Black series, he worked extensively with black ink on paper, using expressive lines, drips, marks and delicate variations to create a sense of movement and organic energy.
